I'm Vasilis Daskalakis, a wedding photographer — and despite how it seems, that wasn't always the plan.

Backstory

For years, I worked as an aircraft engineer in the army. Everything was structured, precise, predictable. It also wasn't me.

Photography entered my life early on, through my father who also shoots photos. Still, becoming a professional photographer was never part of the plan. Life, however, has its own way of leading us where we are meant to be.

When I discovered the world of wedding photography, something shifted. Before I fully realized how I got there, I found myself making one of the most important decisions of my life: to leave stability behind and follow something that felt real.

Looking back, it was never really about changing careers. It was about choosing a life closer to people, emotions, and stories worth remembering.

Why weddings

I shoot weddings because there's nothing quite like them. Someone once told me that there are really only two days in your life when everyone you love is in the same room: your wedding day and your funeral. I prefer to be part of the first one.

The energy of a wedding day is unlike anything else — the nerves, the chaos, the laughter that comes out of nowhere. I love being in the middle of all that.

How I work

A great photograph is built on chemistry and trust. After all, I'm a photographer, not a magician.

Most couples tell me they don't feel comfortable in front of the camera, and honestly, they don't need to. My approach is calm, observational, and unobtrusive. I won't turn your wedding day into a photoshoot or constantly pull you away from the people around you.

With so many styles out there, it's important to choose the one that truly resonates with you. If you're looking for a highly staged, high-glamour production, I may not be the right fit — and that's OK! Your wedding day deserves someone who sees it the same way you do.

My goal is to blend into the flow of the day and focus on the moments that actually matter: your father losing himself on the dance floor, your best friend trying to hold back tears during a speech, or the quiet glances you share when you think nobody is watching.

Based in Chania, I photograph weddings all across Crete and Greece, from intimate seaside elopements to multi-day destination celebrations.
